Back to School: GoodNotes vs Notability (Updated for 2022)
In the iPad note-taking space, there are two behemoths that tower over all other apps, GoodNotes and Notability. Each are similar, but have key differences which can lead to an interesting question — which is better? Having used both over the past few years in college, I will give my thoughts on some key points of each app.
Layout
Notability lays out your notes in different subjects and dividers. I enjoy the different colors, and it is simple, but functional. It makes it easy to separate out different classes and also use it for other aspects of your life. Inside each note is either an infinitely scrollable page, or you can turn the layout into single pages.
GoodNotes feels more like the shelf of notebooks. Each one can be different, and they each open up into single pages. GoodNotes works better in portrait mode, where Notability works in either landscape or portrait mode pretty well.
