To the writer of: “Because.”

“White Privilege” is an ignorance of epic proportions. I am White. I know White privilege. I hate that I have it and Black’s don’t. There is no Black privilege. I read what you wrote. I tried to imagine the reverse of that reality. I was able to see clearly what it meant. I can do nothing to make your experience in this life better. I can let you know I respect your lifelong fight against uncertain odds that should be as much a given into the future as anyone has. A straight chance at being whatever a person’s image of life’s opportunity would bare. An entitlement of choice. Not an experience of uncertainty lorded over by hate, disrespect, ignorance. “Life,” in it’s highest regard is due both yourself, your husband, your children. The entire Black Race, going back hundreds of years is owed reparation and respect.

This ugliness, prevalent throughout the Unites States, is permanent. President Obama’s time in office may have signaled large number’s of white’s wanting it all to go away, that at least, was my hope. However, any hope I had died when Travon Martin died. Sadly hope dies with every Black child who is gunned down. It dies when I see prejudice in any statement the Presidential candidates of 2016 make. I recognize it is alive and well and thick within the Whites of the Southern United States where their ignorance has not changed in over 200 years and never will.

The difference between Black skin and White skin is just that. Skin. You are human. I am human. That is our difference. Nothing more, nothing less. Human beings don’t like change. Human beings have ego’s and don’t want to be wrong. Human’s are liars and can look at red spot and try to convince you it is green. What I know for certain is this: I am a fellow human being who welcomes and celebrates your life, your family, your rights your access to both. (To use your syntax in saying:)

Because: I am human and we are one in that. Because I can tell you of my sorrow and horror of and for my fellow man who’s comprehension of reality is fed by hatred and stupidity. Because I know human’s are incapable of taking responsibility for the past and changing what is now and in the future. Because all man is ignorant until they are given illumination of said ignorance they are condemned to repeat the behavior that made them ignorant. Because if no one else has ever said it I will. Because in this minute, I apologize for the plight of all color’s of people, but especially Black’s in America. BECAUSE I am sorry white’s are too stupid to say what is obvious . Because I know you, and the entire Black Race are owed more than any human is capable of giving in reparation and respect.

“I am White but do not lump me in with the hatred and stupidity of my fellow man. I can offer that which I am capable of: wisdom of sameness, wholeness of belonging, yearning for what is not and can never be BECAUSE all of me is sorry your life has been the culmination of anger and hatred ignorant beings display in their miserable lives daily and sadly have convinced you the entire white race is part of. I am woefully, inadequately sorry humans got this so desperately fucking wrong.”
