THE waterproofs aspect of a fitness tracker should be considered as important as its ability to track activities. Why? Because sooner rather than later your dear gadget is going to get in contact with your soggy after-exercise skin or the rain, as you jog back home determined not let the weather interrupt your workout program. It’s virtually bound to happen, and that could mark the end of your short-lived camaraderie with your prized asset.

But does this really need to happen when you can spend a few extra pounds and get yourself a device that you won’t have to alter your exercise schedule to protect? Of course no. I’m going to leave this article here so that when you decide to purchase a waterproof fitness tracker any time in 2017, you can have these ten to choose from.

When activity trackers were invented and merged fitness and technology, these allowed everyday people to monitor their body while exercising. They could take note of their distance covered while running or jogging, the calories they burned, and even their heart-rate. Recently manufacturers upgraded their activity trackers to become waterproof fitness trackers and this was great news for swimmers.

All of these waterproof fitness trackers fall into two broad categories: the trackers that are meant to monitor various activities including swimming, and the trackers that were designed mainly for swimmers and swimming athletes. If swimming is your recreational sport among others, then a waterproof fitness tracker that can cover other activities is more suited for you, but if you’re a serious swimmer, you’ll likely need a waterproof fitness tracker whose features focus on swimming.

Waterproof fitness trackers may cost a little more than normal activity trackers so it’s best that you know more about them before deciding on which one to buy. Here’s our guide to choosing the best waterproof fitness tracker and a list of the devices we recommend. The Best Waterproof Fitness Trackers and Wearable.

As you may have noticed, there are several different levels of IP certification which is ultimately the rating of dust and water resistance any given device has. For instance, IP68 devices — which is what we’re going to stick with — are at a level of 6 for dust protection and 8 for water resistance. What does this mean exactly? With diving too far into the particulars, a waterproof fitness tracker with an IP68 rating means that it can submerged underwater for up to three feet (a meter) for a select period of time. The time it can remain underwater is determined by the IP rating, of course.

Everything on this list has a rating of at least 1 ATM, which means they can be submerged in up to 33 feet (10 meters) of water and subsequent pressure.

Keep in mind — and this is where it can get confusing — just because the device is certified to be submerged underwater at that depth does not necessarily mean it’s a good idea to take it in your pool, in the shower or in the ocean. If there’s a device on this list that blurs the line in terms of water resistance, we’ll point it out to you. So, don’t worry.

These are some of the best waterproof fitness trackers and wearable money can buy.
