I appreciate you taking time to offer a nice counter to Paul’s post. Without going too deep, what I’ll say is that I see both sides simply because I’m a Black founder and CEO of a tech startup seeking VC funding yet I come from a single-mother home where we grew up on food stamps, free school lunches and government assistance for housing, healthcare, etc. I was the first in my family to graduate from college. I now get to travel and have had a tech job paying me six figures, etc. Ultimately I think the biggest thing Paul seems to miss is that tech is NOT at all a meritocracy and the biggest thing you seem to miss is that Paul’s post wasn’t about poor people being stupid, but about him still trying to convince people who don’t work in tech that tech is a meritocracy where anyone can walk in and succeed if only they’re smart enough when we all know good and well based on statistics and the industry’s lack of diversity that’s not at all true.
