Here’s the thing: white people don’t get to decide what is the right way for the conversation to happen, it’s not about us so perhaps it would be more productive if people would stop trying to promote the white voice within this dialogue. What you perceive as silencing, others may see as necessary and constructive criticism. If you feel differently, maybe you should ask yourself why. Is the white voice never to be questioned, doubted or called out? The mere fact that this discussion keeps going on and on only proves that white people have a clear compulsion to make every discussion about themselves. And by doing so, you not only detract attention from the real issues but are also speaking over the voices of black people. If you have no need to make white people feel comfortable, then allow those who are getting criticism to learn and grow from it.
