Busy Moms: How To Easily Take Care Of Your Skin While Being A Super Mom
Are you a busy mom? Do you feel like you take care of yourself the way you want to? Do you want to have healthy skin but don’t have the time to research products or have time to figure out what routine to follow?
I’m not a mom, but I have a lot of clients that are moms, and it’s common for them to tell me that they don’t take care of themselves very well. They have too many other things to worry about before they can think of their own needs. Their children, their spouses, their job, the household, and the family pets.
It’s common for my moms to tell me that they don’t take care of themselves because it feels selfish or indulgent to spend money and time on themselves before they take care of their families needs.
First off, It’s never a luxury to take care of YOU! To be the best mom, the best spouse, the best sister, the best friend, the best woman, you need to take care of yourself first. If you are wearing yourself out, tired, exhausted, you can’t fully be there for the ones you love.
Second, it’s doesn’t have to cost a lot of money or take lots of time to take care of yourself and to have healthy, vibrant skin. You can easily take care of your skin and then go run errands, work, be the busy supermom you are.
Here are some of my time-tested skin care secrets:
Minimal Skin Care Routine
Put down the magazines. Tune out the beauty commercials. Forget everything you have been told about skin care. You can stop feeling guilty about “not doing enough”.
You see all these ads for a million step skin care routine, and you throw in the towel to your own skin care because who has the time for all that? Why bother with the time when there are more important things going on?
Which do you choose: multiple step, 20-minute routine or get the kids off to school, feed the cats, beat the morning rush?
I really, really want you to be able to take care of yourself while also taking care of your busy mom duties. I strongly advocate minimal skin care. You can have healthy skin without having to use lots of skin care products or have to take lots of time to achieve balanced skin.
A minimal skin care routine is one that is basic, simple, easy and affordable. It only takes a few minutes in the morning and evening.
Minimal Skin Care Routine For All Skin Types:
Morning
- Rinse your face with water and wipe with a washcloth
- Spritz floral water to refresh. I love Orange Blossom Facial Mist.
- Massage in a moisturizer. I swear by oils. Every skin type can use oils, and no, it won’t clog your pores or cause you to break out. A little goes a long way so a 2oz bottle should last you a few months.
Evening
- Cleanse your face and get all the makeup and gunk off.
- Optional:
- Spritz floral water on
- Massage moisturizer on if feeling dry
That’s it. I am serious. You’re a busy mom, you don’t need to do more than that on a daily basis. Nope, you don’t need morning products and separate evening products. You don’t need a product for different areas of your face. Nor do you need to glob on layers of products to have healthy skin.
Take A Minute For You
Self-care is crucial for healthy skin. I know, I know, you are a busy mom and you have things to get done but self-care is probably more important for healthy skin than any products you use.
When you take time for yourself, you lower your stress levels, you can breathe deeply, and start lowering your heart levels and blood pressure. Less stress equals happier skin.
Stress can make you break out more, have more irritation, and unbalanced skin. Stress makes your body produce hormones like cortisol, and cortisol tells your oil glands to pump out more oil. This chemical response makes your skin more sensitive, reactive, and prone to breakouts and skin problems.
Be sure to take some time out of your busy mom schedule for self-care.
Self-Care Ideas for busy moms
- Write a gratitude list
- Take an extra long shower
- Call your best friend
- Take a bath
- Daydream
- Snuggle under a warm blanket
- Eat chocolate
- Hug someone
- Do some deep breathing
- Turn one uplifting music
- Write and send a sweet card to someone
- Make yourself a nice drink
- Go for a walk
- Have a cup of herbal tea
Taking these moments for yourself will help lower your stress, help you be calmer and focused on being the best mom you can be.
Live A Healthy Lifestyle
Having healthy skin is also achieved by living a healthy lifestyle. Eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water, exercising, and sleep is important for caring for your skin.
Some of these can seem overwhelming while you are being a busy mom. I get it. Sometimes fast food on the way to sports games is the only option or remembering to drink water while running lots of errands isn’t a top priority, but any chance you get to include healthy habits into your day is good for your skin.
Final Thoughts
It really doesn’t have to be complicated to have healthy skin. It may take a little bit of dedication at first, but if you focus on keeping your daily routines as minimal and simple as possible you really can have healthy skin while being a busy mom.
You don’t need to do a lot for your skin, and in fact, you may already be doing very little skin care right now. I am here to tell you, that is totally ok! You don’t have to use lots of products or spend lots of time on your face to have healthy skin. You can be a busy mom and have good skin. It doesn’t have to be one over the other.
