What if I told you that having amazing skin can be achieved by following 8 self-care habits daily, and it has nothing to do with skin care products. Skin care products are just a small piece of the healthy skin puzzle. Our skin is an organ and rubbing creams on it can only do so much. Practicing daily self-care habits is crucial for having amazing skin.

We are constantly bombarded with the latest skin care trends and products that make big promises to work magic to fix all of our skin insecurities, POOF, just like that. Creams to erase time and make our wrinkles disappear, lotions that overpower our hormones and stop us from breaking out, serums that will make our skin flawless as we sleep. If only it was that easy.

Having amazing skin doesn’t happen overnight. Wah Wah. If only we lived in a magical world and our problems could be solved in a snap of a finger or flick of a wand. That’s not reality. Having healthy organs takes work. Think of the sweat, blood, and tears and hours of cardio for your heart health. Our skin benefits greatly from daily self-care habits and exercises that help it function at it’s best, and help us have amazing skin.

Reducing Stress For Amazing Skin

From working with my clients, I truly believe that stress is the main reason for most of our skin problems. Most skin imbalances are hormonal which can cause breakouts, irritation, and uneven skin. Stress makes your body produce hormones like cortisol, and cortisol tells your oil glands to pump out more oil. This chemical response makes your skin more sensitive, reactive, and prone to breakouts and skin problems. This is not ideal.

Focusing on reducing stress is way more beneficial for helping hormonal breakouts than any topical blemish cream. The problem with topical products is that they are focused on drying up the excess oil your skin is producing. Ok, that’s fine, but if you don’t nip the overproduction of oil in the bud than it will be a battle you will be fighting for a long time.

To help stop the oil from taking over your skin, you need to focus on keeping your stress hormones in check. Reducing stress is our main goal and encompasses the other daily self-care habits we need to be practicing every day for amazing skin.

Making Time For Relaxation For Amazing Skin

When we are stressed our body goes into fight-or-flight mode. This increases our blood pressure, heart rate, and hormones. When we practice relaxation, these increases are returned to their normal state and we have more peace in our body and mind. This means our skin will be more balanced and happy.

Find ways to relax during the day. Make time for a lavender and eucalyptus salt bath before bed. Listen to soothing music. Sip on a warm cup of relaxing herbal tea. Close your eyes and visualize something that makes you happy.

Find what works for you to slow down during times of stress to bring your body into a peaceful balance. These moments of relaxation over time will contribute to amazing skin.

Practicing Mindfulness For Amazing Skin

Mindfulness is being aware and paying attention to what you are feeling and sensing. I love to practice mindful eating. When I sit down to eat lunch during my busy shift, it is easy to shove the food in while scrolling through social media and not even being fully aware of what I am eating or tasting. When I eat mindfully, I have no distractions and with every bite of food, I am aware of how it tastes and how it makes me feel. I am aware of my surroundings and what I can see, hear, and smell. I am connected to my experience.

We can practice being mindful in everything that we do during the day.

Breathing exercises For Amazing Skin

While relaxing and being mindful we can focus on deep breathing. Breathing is a great tool for lowering our stress. Taking 5 to 10 minutes a day to focus on our breath is all we need to help keep our body and skin balanced. Deep breathing could be as easy as sitting down and taking a deep inhale that fills up your abdomen and exhaling all the air out until your belly is empty. Doing that on repeat. Slow, deep, breaths. You could also learn some fun breathing exercises to do every morning or night to have amazing skin.

Keep a Gratitude Journal For Amazing Skin

Gratitude reduces stress and helps counteract the negative emotions that threaten your emotional and physical health. I found keeping a gratitude journal during a time of high stress helped me stay focused, encouraged feelings of happiness and joy, and helped calm my skin down from breaking out in stress pimples, and I am not kidding. I write in my gratitude journal every day and it has helped me significantly to have amazing skin.

Mediation For Amazing Skin

Meditation is a great way to help with stress. Meditation over time will help your body not go into the fight-or-flight mode so quickly, and when it does, mediation helps your body return to normal much quicker.

You don’t have to meditate for a long time to reap huge benefits. Just 5 minutes a day goes a long way. Start small and work your way up as time goes by. I started with 5 minutes a day and after a month or two, started doing 10 minutes a day, and continue to add more time the easier it becomes.

Saying a mantra, a repeated phrase, helps keep your brain focused. Do you have a skin worry? Turn it into your mantra. “I have beautiful, clear skin.” Use meditation and mantras to help you have amazing skin.

Yoga For Amazing Skin

You don’t have to be able to tie yourself up in knots to do yoga. Anyone can do yoga. You can do yoga sitting in your office chair or in your bed. You don’t have to join a fancy yoga studio to do yoga. Anytime you are stretching your body to your breathing patterns, you are doing yoga. Moving your body helps release tension and stress and helps calm your nerves. It helps support a healthy body and works towards creating balance and healthy skin.

Positive Self Affirmations For Amazing Skin

Have you ever looked in the mirror and cringed at what you saw? Did you judge your wrinkles or the size of your pores? Did you sigh at the sight of the dark circles under your eyes or the latest pimple that popped up? Of course, you have. We all have, trust me!

Instead of judging ourselves, we should be practicing positive self-affirmations. Positive affirmations are statements that can help you overcome self-sabotaging negative thoughts.

Every time you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see, tell yourself how much you love your wrinkles because it tells a story of the good life you have lived. Or every time you look in the mirror and don’t like what you see, change the narrative. Tell yourself you are beautiful, that you are worthy, that you are fine the way you are.

Reciting positive affirmations throughout our day helps curb stress, uplifts our spirits, and reminds us that we are enough!

I have so many clients that come see me who are so frustrated by their skin and have tried product after product, to no avail. Until you figure out your stressors and work on those for a balanced mind and body, you won’t have a lot of luck. Skin care products may curb the problem for a bit, but sadly, skin issues will pop back up and no one wants that.
