The system looks for stability. The problem is how it goes about securing it. One way to stabilize yourself is to reduce the differentiation at each joint, for example moving the chest, back, pelvis and shoulders as one unit. This does create stability, however, as you move through life that statue-like organization can lead to pain if you find yourself needing to also lift, bend, twist. The greater stability is actually found in the ability to adapt, in instability itself. At first it seems counter-intuitive, but there’s actually more freedom and stability to be found there.
