Pelion, Greece — The mountain of Centaurs

Pelion is a mountainous peninsula in Thessaly. It is located between the Aegean sea and the Pagasitic Gulf, and as a result, gives a heartbreaking scenery.

The legend of Pelion is about the Myth of Centaurs’s: these mythological creatures were half-humans and a half- horses. Their existence was due to the disrespect of Ixon, the king of Lapiths, after provoking the anger of the Gods and humans for the murder of his fiancé’s father. Subsequently, he tried to seduce the Goddess Hera, wife of Zeus. Zeus transformed her into a Nefeli (a cloud) and tied Ixon to a firing weel. After their union between Hera and Ixon, Centaurs were born.

Pelion has many villages, which satisfy visitors’ preferences. The most popular are Portaria, Makrinitsa, Tsagarada, Milies, Zagora, and Chania where a ski resort lies.

Portaria

Where to stay: The center of the village has many hotels and rental houses where can be found via booking or trivago. Also if you prefer something more relaxing, little further out of the center, between the villages, Portaria and Makrinitsa there is the hotel Pellion Terra, overlooking the city of Volos. This place offers the most relaxing holidays…
