Horton Plains- Pride of Sri Lanka

Horton Plains is a popular tourist destination on the island, the main reason being the World’s End, a cliff that ends with no warning.

Horton Plains National Park is the only park in Sri Lanka that is a mountainous area, with grassland, forests and overall, a haven for nature lovers, hikers, and trekkers.

Located about an hour away from Nuwara Eliya, this park is easily accessible if you are staying at one of the Nuwara Eliya bungalows. Nuwara Eliya also has a variety of places to stay at, and if you like the idea of a charming old bungalow, there are many in the area, one of them being the Scottish Planter Glendevon Bungalow.

Within the park

The mind blowing views and ethereal beauty that only nature can provide is seen from the hillside at the park. Taking long walks in the wee mornings is a favourite memory of anyone who has ever tried it. The silence, the wildlife, and the eerie mountains make you feel like you are someplace alone, where no human has ever been before.

Truly an eye opening experience that leaves you mesmerised. Animals you might spot within the park include leopards, sambar deer, and langurs and for the bird watchers in you, look for the blue flycatchers, the local white eyes, and bulbuls.
