Batas Militar (unedited)
In an interrogation room along EDSA, a man was caught for supposedly exercising severe physical violence. The physical harm he was suspected of was brought about through the use of punches, kicks, knees, elbows, blunt objects, sharp objects, and vehicular force. He was caught in the streets with blood on his knuckles and a basket on his head. He is currently suspected of sending roughly 150 people to the hospital in the span of 4 months. He is rather tall, weighed around 165 pounds, and looks physically fit. While he sat in the interrogation room, a large man entered wearing a khaki coloured uniform and a khaki coloured hat.
The two looked at each other for a second, and then the large man asked the suspect “May topak ka ba? Ginulpi mo nalang kung sino gusto mo. Ano masasabi mo para sa iyong sarili?” The suspect slowly looked up at the man and just chuckled under his breath. Enraged, the interrogator grabbed the suspect by the collar “Patawa tawa ka pa diyan? Tignan natin kung tatawa ka pa habang binibitay ka para sa kagaguhan mo. Ano? Ngiti ka pa?” The suspect looked directly at the eyes of his interrogator “I did no evil. They all deserved it.” The interrogator smacks the head of the suspect “Deserbed it? Ano ka mangmang? Traysikel drayber muntikan nang mamatay. Sinibak mo gamit ang stoplight? Deserbed it talaga no?” The suspect looked at him blankly and said “He beat the red light. I guess you can say in the end, the red light beat him”
“Impertinenteng gago! Sa tingin ko sasabihin mo din na tamang sinagasahan mo yuong batang kalye?” “He ran under the overpass. He’s lucky that I had a good day or I wouldn’t have slowed down by 10 kph” The interrogator throws his hat at the suspect and screams “10 kph? Galing saan? Galing 70? Ang bait mo naman.” The interrogator slowly clapped for the suspect. “Babae pinakain mo ng basura” “She littered” “Binata nasunog ang ilong dahil pinasinghot mo ng sunog.” “Public smoking” “Isa pang binata pinakain mo ng alcohol” “He vaped and blew out like a chimney” The interrogator mumbled under his breath for 5 more minutes reading the rap sheet of the suspect. “Wala kang pakialam sa kasamaang naidulot dahil sa kaputaputahan mo?”
“Who would’ve stopped them?” “Edi ang batas. Sa tingin mo mas mataas ka pa kesa sa batas? Kesa sa pulisya? Iba nga sa in-ospital mo wala ngang krimen” “I am never above the law. That’s why I let myself be caught. My vigilantism is a reward-less crime but I still deserve to be punished, but first I made sure that I’ve left change.” “Change? Punyeta. Anong change? Walang nagbago Mr.Ferdinand Luna.” The suspect’s eyes lit up and looked straight at his interrogators eyes “Of course there’s change. People have become a bit more conscious of each other. They’re a bit more afraid to do wrong. I started my mission one year ago and I told myself that I would permit myself to be caught once it has been accomplished.” “At ano naman ang iyong misyon?” “Isn’t it obvious? The fact that you don’t see the change I’ve brought at the price of a few heads is a clear sign that you aren’t truly connected with the people. But I see it.” “Nakikita ko lang ang isang baliw na gumagawa ng istorya upang di siya makain ng kanyang pagkasala. Ano to? Kwentong bayani? Marami kang nasaktan at sana lang bukas pa ang kaparusahang kamatayan.” “But it isn’t. So I guess life imprisonment it is.” The interrogator relaxes his look “Bayag mo’y di uurong sa kaparusahang habang buhay?” “Even if I brought good, I still brought harm and the law still was broken. Of course I accept the consequence. I only pray that I have done enough.”
The interrogator slowly scratched his head “Diyos mio. Sa aking pag-iral ngayong palang ako nakakilala ng nilalang katulad mo. Ilang dekada ko nang pinapanood ang Pilipinas at ang kanyang mga tao ngayong palang ako nakakilala ng tunay na aamin sa kanyang pagkakamali. Isang tao na may bayag at puso para sa bansa. Matindi nga lang ang pagkukulang mo sa utak.” The suspect laughed “I guess you can call me a lunatic.” “Oonga lunatiko ka talaga. Parang lang ako noong mas bata pa ako. Akala ko maayos ang Pilipino gamit ang pwersa. Inabuso ko ang artikulo uno at sa munting sandali nagkakwenta ang ilang makasariling anak ng puta.” “Then you understand why I committed those heinous acts? You understand that I had to get my hands dirty?” The interrogator rubbed the sides of his temple for a moment. The suspect notices the nameplate of his interrogator. “Mr A. Luna? You get where I’m coming from right? That I had to mess those bastards up.”
The interrogator stood up and said “Wala na akong oras. Tunay ngang magkadugo tayo, pero kinukunsinte ko ba ang mga ginawa mo?” He slowly got up and left the room. A man wearing a blue uniform entered the room and asked the suspect “So Mr.Luna, why in the world did you commit all those crimes?”
