Medium needs the opposite of a clap.

This article strikes me as nothing more than clickbait and a thinly veiled advertisement for the ‘no-code’ platforms he mentions.

This author has obviously never worked first-hand in technology and has a very poor understanding of the history. The Free Software movement, not the cloud, was what opened up access to industrial grade software to smaller companies and start-ups. The cloud is largely piggybacking off the work of the Free Software community.

He also makes the mistake, like anybody pushing a ‘no-code’ platform, that the hard part is learning language syntax. The hard part is actually knowing what you want to accomplish and how to use the machine to do it. Visual platforms by their nature will have constraints on what you can express. From an interface point of view it’ll be a bunch of clicking and filling in form fields, i.e cumbersome and slow. As opposed to you know just opening a text editor and saying what you want to say, without the kruft and expensive of some intermediating platform.
