How to Regenerate the Earth
This article is an invitation into the Design School for Regenerating Earth.
People all over the world are gathering to learn how to restore landscapes, collaborate to achieve systemic outcomes, and work together in service to safeguarding our planetary future.
When I wrote The Design Pathway for Regenerating Earth, it was to show that it really is possible to do this at the necessary scales. We can organize ourselves around holistic, integrated landscapes known as bioregions. Create prosocial groups that know how to work toward shared goals. And weave across features of landscapes to collaborate at continental and planetary scales.
Back in 2020, I launched a global platform called Earth Regenerators where we learned how all of this can be taught. It was a beautiful experiment in collaboration that helped gather funds to purchase community land and support numerous on-the-ground projects.
You can watch a brief history of Earth Regenerators here. One thing we learned is that it will be necessary to Activate a Planetary Network of Bioregions — something we are now very intentionally doing. We were just on a tour of activation in the Great Lakes that took us to the Greater Toronto Area, Binghamton, Ithaca, Cleveland, and Rochester. Now we know what it will take to sustain these efforts moving forward.
Watch this video to learn how the Design School for Regenerating Earth is able to fund itself while offering financial supports to members of the school who work within the bioregions we partner with. What I want to stress is that this is not an academic exercise. Members of the design school will have access to online learnings, of course! But they will get a lot more.
Our focus is the regeneration of entire bioregions. Most of the work will be to organize and support on-the-ground efforts as we grow into a planetary network of learning exchanges. Members of the design school will be asked to pay $50 per month (or a discounted rate of $500 per year) to have access to these benefits:
- Receive online access to learning journeys and self-guided courses;
- Participate in the bioregional activation process in a design/support role; and
- Have access to financial supports from the design school fund.
