I am in full agreement that it is a self-organizing system — with plenty of dynamic patterns in the “edge of chaos” where self-organized criticality shapes the patterns that arise. What I’ve found interesting in this data set is more sociological and cognitive in that we are seeing particular structures for distinct tribes (each having its own coherent narratives, social values, and worldview).

There is plenty here to be gamed by those who know how… and there is ample evidence this is happening to some extent. But as a decentralized, emergent system of complex interactions it is inherently uncontrollable. Where things get interesting is to consider the deep cognitive mechanisms that shape the emergence of truth networks where a coherent shared set of understandings, assumptions, and beliefs are in play. When we unravel this and see how many different truth networks there are, it becomes more clear that “truth” is in the eye of the beholder — and that new criteria for sense-making are needed to navigate real-world threats.
