You may be inspired to learn that for 99% of human history, our ancestors lived in egalitarian hunter-gatherer societies. We are wired strongly against dominance hierarchies and keep them in check when our community size remains small.
It’s only been 8000 years of empires with massive wealth inequality, slavery, and the like. While that may seem like a long time, it has only recently become technologically possible to morally sanction social behavior in large, complex societies with tools like the internet and our global communications infrastructure. Clearly, we haven’t worked out the bugs yet. But there is a silver lining in this! ;-)
