Boy Babydolls and Princess Builders: Rethinking the Pink Aisle
Brooke Moreland

So pleased to read this. I wrote a piece about vintage GI Joes and the online community of collectors for an academic anthology. The few women in a GI Joe collector’s group shared ideas very much like yours about how silly the dated the gender-division of toys has been. We need to move past that. Why, for instance, can no action figures of female characters from the superhero films be found? And why aren’t women encouraged to be more than shoppers and girlfriends? My wife has her own sets of power tools, runs a chop-saw like a pro, and we have worked on projects together, including renovating two houses. We all need to do better to show girls that they, too, can be builders, scientists, engineers, and yes, warriors.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
