Taking a Personal Inventory
Develop a habit of taking a personal inventory every day. Just five or ten minutes each day sets our sails in the right direction. Many of us have core issues that must be revisited often to make sure we don’t backslide or focus on negative thinking. Let’s say I tend to be hostile, resentful, and self-centered. That is a tall challenge to confront each day. Our tendencies are like little streams that have cut off from the main river; we’ve come down that path so much that a groove has been worn.
I should set a strong intention every day to be mindful of remaining peaceful, positive, and compassionate. That’s a good day’s work. I can work on improving myself and let everyone else working on improving themselves. I regain a lot of energy I wasted each day pursuing codependent activities, such as trying to fix other people.
If we let cloudy water settle, it becomes clear. We see the path that leads to peace and happiness. We are no longer apt to criticize ourselves because when we notice an unskilled behavior; we reflect on it and become more mindful. We become grateful we’ve had this chance to improve.
