I can’t disagree with most of this. I personally can’t fathom how one might rationalize backing a candidate who is supported by the Klan (unless, I suppose, one is in the Klan himself). The idea is unequivocally reprehensible.

I think I’m just frustrated with the fact that this whole thing could have been avoided had progressives in a few locales simply walked up to a booth and filled in a goshdarn box.

Granted, I’ll be the first to admit this is reductionist. There’s more than enough blame to go around. I guess I just feel like: There was so much that I, and we, couldn’t control. And we still somehow managed to bungle the things we could. It doesn’t get anyone else off the hook; it just puts us uncomfortably alongside them.
