Totally agree that both build and maintenance cost are very important.

I would actually expect maintenance cost to be included in gross margin and therefore ‘baked-in’ to the unit economics.

Build cost is also important, but I would argue not really part of unit economics and therefore not specifically relevant to this article. I would look at build cost (R&D overhead) alongside unit economics when thinking about return on investment. Best way to look at build cost is to look at CAPEX and overhead benchmarks (R&D as a % of sales kind of thing).
