STORIES BEHIND ART ( MIDTERM PROJECT )

METROPOLITAN MUSEUM

Tahanan

By: Manuel Baldemor

A Simple picture of a home during 1970’s intrigues me. As mostly Filipino homes are colorful and full of joy. in this particular painting made by Manuel Baldemor the home represented in the painting is painted in black, mostly Filipino paintings are full of color that represents the joy and happiness in the air. Black? why black? in the year 1976 many tragedies struck the Philippines, it was during the Marcos era. There was typhoon, earthquakes, and accidents that had happened in that very year. as for me maybe Manuel Baldemor wants us to realize that in that very year many homes are swallowed by the shadows of the tragedies that had happened.

Ang Babae sa Bintana

By: Jess Flores

“Katarungan” katagang isinisigaw nang mga babae noon. napaka dilim at pait nang panahong iyon. The painting describes how miserable woman those days are, most of them are raped by soldiers and much worse raped by priests. the woman in the window express the misery the loneliness and the sadness they have in there hearts.

a round plane figure that makes us wonder. it’s interesting how these plain circles affected us. us it affected me by making myself realize that a single plain thing can be a important and prestige thing to others, it’s just on how we look at things. just for ourselves, how you see yourself is how you define yourself.

  1. BANGKO SENTRAL NG PILIPINAS HAVING ITS OWN ART COLLECTION

Bangko Sentral wants the public to know what happened and how it feels to be in the Philippines in the past ages. The BSP also wanted in expressing how grateful they are with the lives of the artists that had express their feelings with their paintings.

2. THE PHILIPPINE CONTEMPORARY: TO SCALE THE PAST AND THE POSSIBLE

  • Mother and Child
  • The Graduation

i didn’t have the opportunity to take down notes, and it’s not allowed to take pictures on the second floor where it was showcased. but these 2 i easily recalled for these two made an impact on me. the mother child is a sculpture made in metal it shows a mother holding the hands of her child and not letting it go, the graduation shows a mother and her two daughters on their toga and diploma. the philippine contemporary : to scale the past and the possible portrays the life in the past, how they do and express things. and it helped me more by showing me all those stuff.

3. REFLECTION

Stories Behind Arts. for some they are just drawings, paintings, and sculptures, what this trip had thought me is that in all art forms, all have stories of their own. the trip helped me realized that the importance of an object depends on how you look at it. visiting the museum had given me more insights in looking deeper into art and letting me the knowledge in knowing the stories behind arts.
