Guilt and Punishment

Intriguing. I lapped up every word. My thought, writ quickly:

Yes, we must pass through guilt and shame to be better. However, the narratives offered do not *pass through*. They sit and wallow. I believe the recognition and motion past that can be quick, like tearing off a bandaid, or slow, like acknowledging the damage to America’s first people. After looking at the past, we (and each individual) need to turn our heads and move into the future. That is past blame, past shame, and towards understanding and towards caring.
