I think this statement needs defending. I would say this is at best a half truth, though I understand what you mean when you say it. The New covenant doesn’t “raise the bar,” rather, the new covenant gives us a new heart and grace to actually be people of God to our core, not just in outward keeping of various commands, as the OT did. Ezekiel??? says “I will give them a new heart to obey my laws…writing the law on their heart…” something to that effect. The NT is not a “higher calling” in the sense of “come on guys, you can/should do better,” but in the sense of God calling us children of God- children who actually are enabled by the power of the Holy Spirit to act, think, talk like our Father.
