You might think that, and I see your point, but there’s research that finds otherwise. Our reactions to words aren’t always logical, but I think it’s important to listen to the research. It’s not about whether candidates need to be great — of course they do — it’s that these terms send a negative message to women. In one study, women said they were less likely to trust companies who use this type of language. The words connote innate ability, rather than an ability to learn and grow.
