The 3 Best Writing Programs To Increase Your Wordcount

Write more. Write Better. Use These Programs.

OmmWriter

OmmWriter

If you just want to get words on the page then use OmmWriter. In a sentence, it’s the perfect writing environment.

It combines a full-screen writing environment, variable backgrounds, beautiful ambient tracks, and even tactile keyboard sounds to simply put you in the mood to simply write.

Current use case: Writer’s block breakthrough. When I just need to get words on a paper, this is my go to app. Worry about formatting in another program — this one is all writing, all the time.

Scrivener

Scrivener

Want to write a book? Scrivener is where it’s at. Seriously, don’t try to write anything longer than a short pdf without using scrivener. You’ve been warned.

I’ve tried Word, Pages, Evernote — you name it and I’ve tried to write a book with it. It’s a headache and even if you manage to do it, you’ll punch yourself in the face if you go back and try to edit anything.

Enter: Scrivener.

Made by writers, for writers — it’s the one program that’s made me lay out, organize & write many of the books & programs for Impossible HQ without wanting to hurt a small animal.

There’s a bit of a learning curve — as it’s a substantial piece of software — but it’s definitely worth it. Also, it’s a higher price point in the app store ($44.99 on iTunes) than most other apps (and may push poor writers off), but don’t let that deter you. In the grand scheme of things — it’s nothing — a $45 investment in making your writing better & more organized (especially if it’s something you plan on publishing), will be made back ten-fold when everything is said & done.

Current Use Case: Outlining, organizing & writing any sort of whitepaper/book/resource that’s longer & more involved than a simple blog post or basic writing exercise.

iA Writer

iA Writer

If you’re a blogger and want to publish directly from your posts — iA Writer just might be your savior. Using the markdown format, iA Writer lets you export directly to html which you can drop into your site or wordpress directly.

It takes a little bit to catch hang of markdown, but once you do, it saves quite a bit of time on the formatting front.

My only improvement would be to add the Ommwriter functionality. If somehow these two programs were merged, I’d be using that program every single time.

Current Use Case: drafting & formatting blog posts before I drop them in my wordpress sites.
