3 Wrong Perspectives in Life

In life we naturally look at everything except God. Leah learned this lesson and let’s look at her progression through the 3 wrong perspectives before she landed on the right one.

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭29:32 — 35‬ ‭ESV‬‬

  1. Looking at others- “And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, “Because the Lord has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.” Leah was watching Jacob instead of God. Don’t look to people for your approval or joy. They will always let you down!
  2. Looking at yourself- She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon. Leah was having a pity party for herself. She had turned her focus to another wrong perspective and begin to think about herself. Looking at your own problems or trusting in your own ability will never lead to fulfillment or joy!
  3. Looking at your works- Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi. Leah’s final wrong perspective was focusing on her works. She put her hopes of happiness and fulfillment in what she had done.
  4. Looking to God!- And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing.” Finally Leah looks to the Lord as her source and found wholeness and completion in being God’s daughter. Instead of looking at others, herself, or her works she simply lifted her hands and began to praise the Lord!

Takeaway: Have you been looking at things from the wrong perspective? Have the sneaky enemies of comparison, self-pity, or works mentality robbed you of the joy of the Lord?

Set your eyes on Jesus today and lift your hands in praise! Get your perspective right!
