4 Ways to Take Back Tranquility

We live in a day where we have more stuff floating around than any previous generation.

From consumer items filling our large homes to multiple pages of apps on our Iphone, there is a continual feeling of “swimming” in possessions. On top of it all, we all strive for success in our lives that can easily be sabotaged by the myriad of things we possess.

Here are 4 simple ways I’ve learned to push back the tide and TAKE BACK some precious tranquility:

  1. Digital- Don’t allow your phone and/or tablet to be disorganized and bloated with “options”. For some reason, we have no inhibition about downloading a new app, but find it almost impossible to delete even one of our precious collection. Try consolidating apps into concise folders and minimizing your screens down to 1 or 2. Every time you look at your device you will see order and minimal options that will free your brain and cut down on unconscious stress. Tranquility will rise!
  2. Vehicle- I’m the type of person who likes to collect things that I might need (if the apocalypse were to suddenly come etc). My beautiful wife has helped me to learn the value of taking absolutely everything out of my vehicle except what can fit in a neat little cubbyhole OUT OF SIGHT! If there is nothing in your car, it is much harder to get junked up!
  3. Closet- I’m sure that ugly Christmas sweater you wore to a Y2k party was cool then, but it is time for it to find a new home! I limit my wardrobe each season to 30 pieces (including shoes and belt). When you only wear a limited amount of clothes each season, it becomes very clear what stuff needs to go. Just do it!
  4. Mail- When you get the mail, there needs to be a system in place for processing. Immediately throwing out the junk mail is a good start. Sort the bills into a designated file or drawer and make sure that nothing lingers around the house for days or even weeks. Don’t allow the mail to rob you of any tranquility!

Hopefully, by reading these 4 little suggestions, you will get the idea of how to take back the tranquility of your life in simple, practical ways.
