Except for These Chains
“And Paul said, “Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day might become such as I am — except for these chains.” Acts 26:29 ESV
Here is the great apostle Paul on trial for his life. In the midst of this pressured situation, he is still focused on winning others to the Lord Jesus. People who hated him and wanted him to die were hearing him speak about Jesus. Government officials and kings were witnessed to even as they held his life in their hands. What a focus on eternity!
I am so inspired today by Paul. He was literally chained as a prisoner, and yet, he maintained a laser-like focus on his purpose to preach the gospel.
This speaks to me on many levels but probably none more than the mention of chains. My chains are not literal chains that bind me like a prisoner of war. My chains are the dialysis treatment lines that bind me to a machine three times a week. Can I maintain focus on preaching the gospel while being shackled by this debilitating circumstance?
Takeaway: Do you have a situation that causes you to feel chained? Is it something that would be a good excuse for keeping you from proclaiming the Gospel? Every man or woman who has proclaimed the Gospel has had to overcome some sort of chains.
Don’t be surprised when you find yourself preaching with metaphorical shackles around your wrists. You’re in good company!
