How to Overcome the Enemies of Childlike Wonder

The people we are most drawn to have managed to maintain a sense of wonder.

Whether it’s is my father’s childlike wonder at the Scriptures or a good friend who seems to always be captivated by the latest church model, there are those people who consistently seem to shake the cynicism of the world around them.

The #1 enemy of wonder is cynicism.

It is the default mode of our human experience. The more “mature” we get in life, the more we lose our wonder and become cynical.

Whether it is relationship gone bad or a loved one passing away prematurely, cynicism constantly seeks to creep in and crowd out the wonder.

Another enemy of wonder is knowledge. The “know it all” syndrome will effectively kill any wonder you may have. Maintaining the humility of a novice will always release new levels of wonder and ultimately innovation.

The great innovators in the world are all fueled by wonder.

It is your job to maintain the wonder.

Wonder is cultivated in the soil of positivity. You cannot have wonder and negativity at the same time.

Curiosity provides the seeds of wonder. This is where the phenomenon starts.

If you want to regain your wonder in any area you can start by taking a fresh posture of curiosity.

What areas of your life do you have wonder? Where have you lost the wonder? What areas would you like to foster a newly found wonder?
