Prove It!

“So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.” ‭‭James‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭NLT‬‬

James chapter 2 gives us a lesson worth taking note. It articulates the need to prove our faith by the works that we do. We all know that we are not saved by works, but we are told here by the apostle James that our faith should produce good works.

When we talk about good works we think of feeding the poor and acts of charity. While that may be true, I want to focus more on the good works of righteousness and living a holy life.

Many people today claim to be Christians and profess some sort of faith in Jesus. Sadly, they never produce any sort of righteous works from their lifestyle or choices.

There is no humility, no surrender, no change of behavior. Nothing, in fact, that would indicate a living, abiding faith and a heart for the Lord Jesus.

When someone says they have placed their trust in Jesus but yet months and years go by and there seems to be absolutely no change in their behavior, their faith has not produced the works of righteousness. Jesus said that we would know someone by their fruit. That is the works that James is talking about here. What is the fruit of their “salvation”?

Takeaway: Examine your life today and see if your faith has produced the good works of righteousness.

Mental assent to the work of Calvary is not the foundation for salvation.

A deep, abiding faith that eventually changes every aspect of your life is the fruit of the transformation that happens when someone excepts the Lord Jesus.
