Quit Copying the World!

“and you will know that I am the LORD. For you have refused to obey my decrees and regulations; instead, you have copied the standards of the nations around you. Ezekiel‬ ‭11:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Holiness is not relative! We don’t just try to stay two steps ahead of the world in order to be the salt and light Jesus called us to be.

For many believers today, the fact that they are not “as bad” as the world is all the separation they need to feel like they are “set apart”.

Our culture is on a slippery slope downward. The pace is accelerating. The wickedness and rebellion of society is increasing by the day. Morality has become a byword and Christians who stand up for Biblical standards are scoffed at. This is not a new problem!

Ezekiel gives the people of Israel this word from the Lord that the children of Israel have copied the standards of the nations around them. Have we not done the same in the body of Christ.

We’ve worked so hard to prove we are not legalistic and accepting of everyone that we have become just like those we are trying to reach.

This may be put under the banner of trying to “reach” people but it is really just a poor justification of carnal, selfish living.

Takeaway: Have you set the standard of your personal holiness by the present state of our culture? I know I am the first to admit guilt in judging myself by external forces of society instead of the Word of God. Stop looking around you to see what your standards should be and refocus on the Cross of Jesus to bring fresh perspective as to the life of holiness you were called to live!
