The Prophetic Shift
“Your prophets have said so many foolish things, false to the core. They did not save you from exile by pointing out your sins. Instead, they painted false pictures, filling you with false hope.” Lamentations 2:14 NLT
One of the things revealed to me in the last 2 years while being a part of Gateway Church is the amazing shift that happened in the prophetic between the Old and New Testaments.
This verse clearly helps us understand the role of the OT prophets was to point out sins. This role was difficult and no fun!
They were just about all persecuted and many martyred. Not a job anyone would volunteer for!
So what is the shift? So glad you asked! In John 1:29 John the Baptist declares, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world!”
Instead of the focus of the prophetic being to point out the sins of the people, the focus shifts TO Jesus, the cure for all sin. What a beautiful truth!
There is no contradiction of purpose here. There is simply a greater emphasis on Jesus that doesn’t just point out the problem but points to the solution.
Takeaway: Are you allowing the Lord to use you prophetically in the NT way by pointing the way to Jesus?
Is it your mission each day to point people to the solution to their ultimate problem, sin?
Join me today in embracing the NT focus of all God’s people and become a herald of this message of LIFE! (See Acts 5:20)
