What is the Purpose of Wisdom?

“Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair.” Proverbs 1:3 NLT
Wisdom seems to be a huge buzz word these days. Everyone knows they need it and yet very few seem to possess it. What is it about this mysterious word that has captivated the curiosity of men for millennia? Who better than Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, to give us a definition of the function of wisdom?
According to this verse there are 2 distinct roles of wisdom. The first role is to teach. What is it that wisdom wants to teach? Discipline and Success! We hate one and love the other.
Notice that discipline comes before success. We all want the successful lives but despise the discipline mandatory to get there.
Note: wisdom’s definition of a successful life is much different than our current cultural connotation.
The second role of wisdom is to help or guide. This is the realm that most people refer to when they use the word wisdom. This role always surrounds action.
Wisdom is not a state of being but always pertains to the actions of your life.
It will help you to see and do the RIGHT THING at the RIGHT TIME in the RIGHT WAY with the RIGHT PEOPLE. It will also show you how to operate with justice and fairness. Wow, how we all need more wisdom!
Takeaway: Have you sought after wisdom in your daily life and decisions? Have you lived your life according to the Word of God, which is the source of all wisdom? Do you know who personifies wisdom? His name is Jesus! Paul said in 1 Cor 1:30, “God has made Jesus to be wisdom itself.” Seek Jesus today and wisdom will surely come along as a glorious side effect!
