When did the Narrow Way get Broad?

“But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I really wish this verse was not in the Bible. I really wish that it said the opposite.

Why couldn’t the way to salvation be broad and the way to destruction be narrow? It would sure make my job as a minister much easier!

It seems that these days everyone is saved and everyone who dies goes to heaven. By ministers being weak and putting anyone who dies in heaven, there is no fear of God and the way of the Cross has been diluted to a broad highway that everyone is on by default. Many preachers have twisted the grace of God to the point that it “pursues everyone” and is an inevitable reality for all. This not-so-subtle form of universalism pollutes much of the preaching today…God forgive us!

I am hear today to declare that the narrow way to life is still DIFFICULT and only a FEW will ever find it!

Why is this so hard? Because it means that we have to hold the line and declare like Jesus and John the Baptist, “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand!”

It is much easier to preach and teach from the vantage point that everyone is good and all are headed to heaven. It is easier to avoid confronting sins of fornication and homosexuality.

It is much easier to motivate and inspire when the responsibility of eternal judgment is removed.

This is why you will always have a powerless, conviction-less gospel that seeks to win approval of man and not God.

Takeaway: Have you made sure you are on the narrow way? Have you squeezed through the gate of Calvary and left all behind to pursue Jesus on the narrow way? Have you committed to traveling the Highway of Holiness that IS the narrow way? Let us all embrace the Cross afresh today and make sure we are headed in the right direction. Let us tell everyone we can to abandon the broad, easy path that leads to destruction and embrace the narrow way that leads to life!
