Secret Wallpapers

Finding and collecting satisfying wallpapers has been an obsession of mine for some time now. The idea is to find ones that look great but are also subtle enough not to distract you from all of the apps and text you have on the screen.

This can be a difficult task. Most of the time I find something that I think looks great, but when I set it as a wallpaper it becomes far too much. Unlike larger screens, mobile backgrounds have to accommodate for a lot more noise.

So this is why I’m going to start a series of new wallpapers I’ve come across and share them for everyone to use or inspire them. Below you can find the first 5:

1. Sam Chirnside

I came across Sam’s work by flicking through Instagram a few months back and was instantly impressed. He’s a very talented Australian designer and I recommend following him as he never disappoints.

2. Shigeto — No Better Time than Now

This was the wallpaper that sparked the idea to make this series. It’s also the album artwork to a favourite artist of mine.

3. Jack Vanzet

I’ve had this on my iPad for awhile now as I can’t seem to find anything I like better. Jack Vanzet is another great Australian artist that uses simple, beautiful and neon coloured paint strokes.

4. Her New Tribe

There’s always space for a nice grayscale one and this is also one of my favourite textures — Marble.

5. Megan Weston

For the last in the first set, here’s a smoother wallpaper by Megan Weston. As this one isn’t heavier on one side, it works great set at different positions for the lock and home screens.

More to come

I’ll be posting a new set of wallpapers every fortnight so if you want to keep updated with the series you can join the mailing list I’ve set up.
