Fantastic write-up, Dakota. Thanks for sharing your insight.
Another huge opportunity for Fashion and Beauty Retailers, in particular, comes in the form of User-Generated Content (UGC). More of these retailers are allowing customers to upload Instagram photos to their websites. In doing so, the resulting images are then featured in galleries dedicated to surfacing UGC, and on Product Details Pages (PDPs), as a means of helping users to make a better-informed purchasing decision. The likes of Lily Pulitzer and Rent the Runway are two great examples of Retailers doing this well. Olapic and Curalate are two providers of such a solution.
Customers trust customers. That’s why more and more Retailers are realising the conversion potential, UGC can offer.
The Cosmetics industry is by far the most exciting example of startups looking to cash in on Instagram’s success — the likes of Glossier, Milk Makeup, ColourPop, Lime Crime, and more recently, Rihanna’s very own, Fenty Beauty, have already proven that.
I’ve written a very in-depth article on the Instagram success of these Retailers, which may be of interest – “The Mobile Makeup of Instagram’s Beauty Success Stories”.
Have a read and let me know what you think. Thanks Dakota — keep up the awesome work!
