I agree with quite a lot in this article — thanks for sharing! We have an average small townhouse in the UK, and like many houses here it doesn’t come with much storage…I’m part way through my own digitising project — 35 years worth of old articles, notes, printouts from magazines and such. Scanning, OCRing, then storing them in a system I’m writing as part of a new startup business (the ultimate in eating my own dog-food). And what is fantastic is that all that old information stops being a pile of paper that I might one day look at if I can be arsed to find the right article, to a quickly accessible and useful resource!

One thing I’m always wary of, though — and maybe it’s a product of my age and personality (I’m 57) — is the value of things to which you’re emotionally attached. Don’t dump stuff that is associated with people you love in a major way; one day, those people may not be with you any more and a little souvenir will be valuable.
