Again, this creative freedom is not just creative freedom for the sake of creative freedom — shapes and very specifically outline shapes are as important as colours and contents for visual identification. Here also you make the subjective statement that “lack of consistency” is a bad thing — where is the evidence for that?
I agree that looking at the screenshot below its arguably just *too* inconsistent, but we then do enter subjective territory, and I fear that the consistency that has been applied in this new Adaptive Icon design kit, is a subjective level of consistency too far — do you have evidence that uniformity brings usability in all cases?
