I completely agree — I find this really depressing, it was one of the reasons I loved android. And for me especially, because with a learning difficulty, being a highly visual learner, distinguishing by shape is really important. I don’t know why they are applying uniform for uniform’s sake — why stop at shape? Why not go for colour too? This is an accessibility issue. They’ve taken this too far, and not based on evidence — which for Google, is surprising.
