Hi Joshua
I wish you the very best with your venture. Quality media for quality audiences is a fabulous objective. I regret that I have not seen a solution for FUNDING quality journalism. Yes, we are now all publishers, and as a collective, within the deluge of the shit we have created, there are some great examples of quality pieces of real information and opinion. But, my fear is that scarcity exists in the quantity of quality produced by the masses.
As you have well noted, traditional funding (advertising) has been reduced to a tiny fraction of what used to be generated. How do you pay for reporters to invest a year tracking down a political scandal, or business corruption, or any other complicated story? You simply cannot. So stories are published without research, or even proofreading. Press releases are published nearly word-for-word.
The fact is, an effective “free press” is expensive.
Even if you don’t find “the solution”, I do hope you can get closer than we are now.
