The Smartest Home

In thinking about my future home, I immediately jump to an extreme: something I call the Smartest Home. How exactly does the smartest home differ from a regular smart home? In a smart home, I can set routines for things like air conditioning or lighting, but the Smartest Home takes this to the next level. The Smartest Home knows exactly what to do at any given moment to make me the best human possible. It understands everything about me: my behaviors, my physiology, my biodynamics, my likes and dislikes. But here’s where some controversy may lie: in order for my smart home to be considered the Smartest Home, this may mean that I release all control over my environment and I let my home proactively make decisions that will lead to greater amount of growth over time. This would employ machine learning, wearable IoT devices, state-of-the-art sensor technology, and, you guessed it, robots.

I think that the concept of proactive technological assistance is a growing trend that will potentially grow in its polarizing nature. I know so many people who would be vehemently against this idea. But at the same time, there are others, like myself, who would gladly allow something like this in their home. Throughout history, the different rooms in our homes have played specific roles in growing our capacity to be better humans. Where my curiosity lies is both in how this came to be and also where is it going? If we expand this idea that our home environments are actively built to assist us in being better humans, what does that look like?

For starters, in order to accommodate for our fluctuating interests, moods, and tendencies, the smartest home needs to be dynamic. It must be able to shift and move and manipulate. By definition, this means that the Smartest Home itself will be a robot. The interest surrounding this concept could increase over time to a point where businesses and even industries could form that have the sole purpose of creating robotic homes. The robotic capacity of a home may be a deal-breaker for people looking for a new place to live.

“The Smartest Home itself will be a robot.”

While it is enjoyable to speculate what may come to exist in the future, this discussion would be incomplete without mention on what is being done in the present that will lead to this point. In the past ten years, there have been a great number of technological innovations within the smart home space that increase the potential for this pending reality. Today, smart home technologies enable a person to customize aspects of their home environment to their liking. This includes automated control of the temperature, the lights, or security of a home, but we are seeing a tremendous amount of growth in the implementation of robots in the smart home environment. Robots show great potential for being smart home hubs. Don’t believe me? Head to www.robotemi.com and see for yourself!
