Living in America Today

this feels vaguely familiar

Feeling more
slick and slimy
day after day
I look around
it appears I’m
in my element, yet
I sense ominous
undercurrents
just beneath
the surface
there is a
gradual
change
in the
climate
and
no one
wants to
talk about it.
The sense of
isolation
grows
by the
minute
I look to
the higher ups
for clues
and some
guidance
but
all they
want
to do
is pull
the lid
over my
eyes.
