The other telltale characteristic of entitled, self-absorbed, and sheltered dickheads is that they think that the small amount of time that they spent in any given location gives them the authority to weight in on issues involving that place in some informed way. Thanks for the letter shithead, nobody knew there was a homeless problem in SanFran until you moved here three years ago and sussed it out for San Franciscans. This is the same guy who will tell you about how the horrors of South American narco states are overblown because they spent two weeks at a resort, and everyone who worked there seemed happy. Get a clue, you fucking child.

With that said, America and the world must address homelessness. Over the last 30 years I’ve see homeless increase in Seattle. If, as the Feds say, the US economy is doing much better, then why are people living on the streets? Each presidential election since Reagan — who ushered in homelessness — I’ve heard the rhetoric change. With Bush Sr, there was the neat sidestep of blaming homelessness on the ACLU. Then with Clinton the entire issue got little mention while he and Hillary demonized Welfare Queens. Bush W’s campaign never mentioned homelessness and during Obama’s we were lucky to hear a glancing word about the poor. This election cycle all we hear about is the eroding middle class — which, yes, is in decline — but nothing about the homeless. 
As a culture and society, we have turned indifferent to the plight of the mentally ill, addicted and the poor thrown out on the street to make way for gentrification. 
If rich people want to walk down the street without stepping on homeless people, they can PAY for the necessary social services to ensure their is a safety net to keep people in housing and decriminalize drugs and use the DEA money for rehab. Portugal did this and decreased their drug addicts by over 50%.

A nation is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable. It is utter shitheads like this fuck are the reason why I hate the born-rich. They lack compassion and humility.
