Hundreds of cyclists on a street in downtown Toronto taking over all eastbound lanes. Image has tall buildings in the background, and a clear blue sky as well.

A sunny Saturday afternoon, and a new group, Fight For Bikes, organizes a mass bike ride to save our bike lanes in Ontario. About 400 cyclists showed up at Christie Pits to hear from people such as Norm Di Pasquale, and Rob Zaichkowski. After speeches, we unexpectedly cycled east along Bloor Street.

We stopped for a few minutes at Yonge and Bloor Streets and decided to continue east to Sherbourne Street. We then went south on Sherbourne to Wellesley Street. Then, we cycled west on Wellesley towards the Ontario Legislative Assembly. Along the way, the police tried to cork intersections, but volunteers did it until the police showed up.

Finally, we ended up in front of the Ontario Legislature shouting “Save Bike Lanes, Make Doug Ford cry!”

Overall, an amazing level of support for bike lanes. Officially, the City of Toronto is opposed to what “Doug the Thug” is up to. With effective multi-pronged opposition, including popular protests, legal challenges, and municipalities just saying no, this part of Bill 212 will be stopped dead in its tracks.
