“Hotdog Diggity Dog”
When you buy a hotdog, you are given the freedom to put as many toppings and sauces as you please, or even eat it plain. There are different flavors and sizes. Some people like adding a lot of condiments, while others like only putting ketchup so it won’t overpower the flavor of the hotdog. A hotdog is the canvas of food, each has their own preference.
Similarly, it’s like a creative process. Both use critical and problem solving skills and you bring ideas to fruition. However , there are challenges that hinder the creative processes. These were the problems that I personal faced, TJH ( so one can easily remember the acronym, Tender Juicy Hotdogs)
Thinking Out of the Box
“You can’t be normal and expect abnormal returns.”
Jeffrey Pfeffer
When perceived limitations dominate perceived possibilities, this diminishes our ability to find creative solutions. Being authentic and original is difficult but it is a must in the process. I think because we are all content with what we have, we fail to think of new solutions.
Personally, I believe that we should deviate from the norms by confronting problems in atypical ways, thinking creatively and freely, and encouraging frequent challenges to the status quo. Taking risks are essential for growth, whether it is a personal or business aspect . We shouldn’t just go with the flow but instead take away the comfort of familiar routines . With the resources available, this shouldn’t stop us from creating great
Just Do It
“Let your creative and imaginative mind run freely; it will take you places you never dreamed of and provide breakthroughs that others once thought were impossible.”
Idowu Koyenikan
At times, we tend to over think and become too critical of ourselves when it comes to creating something, similarly like “writer’s block”. This happens because we think of what others think of us; killing productivity, rattling with our confidence, and stifling our cleverness I would say. There is no such thing as perfection because it is an unrealistic self concept; what we create is like a diamond in the rough. We might be under a lot of pressure, but we could create something beautiful if we just let our creative juices flow
Self-Criticism shouldn’t hinder us from We should nurture the imagination process and allow our creativity to flow so as to become more imaginative, innovative, and open-minded. Letting our mind run free is the first step in making something beautiful and who knows it might capture the attention of the audience.
Having an unclear direction of what you want
“Discovering what you really want saves you endless confusion and wasted energy.”
Stuart Wilde
Diving into ideation without having any objectives is a waste of time. The energy and time spent in creating new concepts is useless if you have no idea of what you are doing. Firstly clear your thoughts and think of what problem you want to resolve. Then from there, you can think of possible solutions and undergo the phases of Ideation,Prototype, and Testing. By doing this, not only will the processes make one more focused, but it will make the output more meaningful. It honestly gives you a glimpse of the big picture and from there you can envision what must be done. If you want advice, I strongly suggest that you ask someone who is experienced or has an idea that you can improve and share ideas- a fantastic way to foster creativity and innovation.
Remember creativity is a journey and there will be times you wold give up, but don’t let it stop you from producing something great. As you can see, I chose Mickey Mouse as he evolved into a better yet prominent historical creation of Walt Disney. He’s the true epitome of creativity and still very much relevant to people of all ages. What I’m trying to say is that it is a process and that it is never ending.
