How To Wake Up Early With Ease
I want to share something with you that happened to me a few weeks ago. So I was sitting in my bed, it’s early morning, I’ve been hitting the snooze button for like at least three times now, listening to my favourite tune of all time and my girlfriend just brought me a delicious apple to chew on… it feels like nothing is able to get me out of bed.
So I’m sitting there… basically doing nothing but having a chill fucking time. I’m lacking all kinds of motivation even thought I have tons of stuff to do, business to take care of, school to attend to and side chicks to text…
Money doesn’t motivate me.
Sex doesn’t motivate me.
Sense of accomplishing something in order to feed my ego does not motivate me.
How does one get out of a situation such as this?
During my vegetative state I think I unconsciously realize something is wrong with me, so I get this idea of putting on some motivational videos on YouTube. I go through them one by one, not even fully listening to them, so they’re just a noise in the background. During my fourth video or something like that, I hear this woman talking and I suddenly tune in for god knows what reason. I don’t know who she is, but she’s rambling a lot and then after a good few minutes comes out with this one little quote:
“It’s all about winning the beginning of the day.”
She gives an analogy of how she beats the snooze button every single morning. Instead of skipping the wake up call and putting it off for the next 15 minutes, which is almost always followed by another 15 minutes, she simply starts counting from five to one and then get’s up immediately.
“Once I realized that when I just count down from 5 to 1 and then get up without hesitation, I’d feel like the day had already been won. I would win the first hour, which is the most crucial one.”
This is true beyond all means. The first hour of your day is crucial for a fully productive day. This is why morning runs are so powerful, since they give you that push for the whole day.
Now, what I’ve realized is that even though this method is powerful beyond all means, it’s not necessary. Sure, you can lighten up your odds and start the day the productive way, but what I’ve found to be true in my case is that beating the snooze button is not mandatory. You can lay in bed for hours doing nothing and feeling like the biggest bum in the world, but if you get up at least at some point in your day and start doing things that in your mind need to be done, then the day will get a whole lot better.
Starting your day like a terminator, waking up right away after the alarm without hitting snooze and making the most out of every hour is awesome, but by any means not mandatory.
Besides, life is what you make of it. Happiness lies in being okay with your choices, both good and bad. Once you realize this, you’ll never be the same again.
