Invisible Wars
Poem #4 for National Poetry Month

Invisible Wars
There are so few,
Moments of truth….
Notable battles.
That are clear in your memory.
The struggles that make a difference,
In your life are numerous,
But lay unrecognized.
Those opportunities to conquer…
Continue on,
Minute by minute,
Hour by hour,
Day by day.
These are not bloody battles,
There are no swords soaked in crimson,
No piles of smoking brass falling to the ground,
The foe is rarely recognized.
People live whole lives not seeing,
Battles raging through their lives.
Some day you may wake up.
Finally seeing your grinning enemy…
Staring back at you from the mirror.
Shocked as you realize how many times,
You surrendered dreams to fear,
Chose sleep and appetites,
As you traded destiny…
for numb oblivion.
Is there still breath?
Does blood still flow?
There is still time…
Be who you were meant to be.
