Christian fundamentalism takes as its starting point a belief that the Bible is the Word of God, that God’s Word has been faithfully handed down to us and that God’s Word is truthful and accurate in its subject matter. Orthodox beliefs stem from this understanding of the Scripture, and they haven’t changed from the time that Jesus lived 2000 years ago. So if you are struggling with the teachings of Christianity, the problem lies with you and not with fundamental Christianity.
It really is nothing but hubris to think that because we can’t understand something from the Bible that it must be wrong or that because we don’t like what it says we can just change it. The more appropriate response is to humble ourselves before God’s Word and change to match what it says.
Matthew 7:21–23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’”
