With big data come big responsibilities
First-off: I am a techno-optimist. I believe that new technologies tend to have more benefits than drawbacks. Nevertheless, this article leaves a lot unsaid. What I miss in particular is an outline of what may actually happen when CCOs will en masse take Mr Iwata’s advice.
“Embrace data” is pointing out the obvious. Leaving aside the possibility that with perfect data and perfect execution all distinctions between companies may disappear, I am truly curious about the implications of outsourcing the skill of knowing and understanding people, cohorts AND individuals to a (set of) systems that are then also tasked with interaction. With a company already an abstraction, who, if anyone in this case, is actually talking to you?
