Thank you, Mr. Sledge. I was raised by females. My father is on the memorial plinth in Carthage, Tunisia as one of the MIA’s in WW2. Upon being drafted for Vietnam, I was 4-F’d at Oakland in 67' due to a weak eye. In addition, I had 3 stepdads growing up who were all divorced by my mother (mostly for faithlessness). Growing up in 50’s North Africa, then 60’s California, every sort of vulgar & licentious behavior was on open sale. Yet somehow, I managed to find a job I stayed in for 37 years, a first spouse I stayed faithful to until her death, didn’t go to jail, paid all my bills on time, served in a volunteer fire dept. for a dozen years to do my national service dues. I’ve often mused as to why I bothered, as all was stripped from me eventually in spite of living honorably. My pension was cut by the government to punish me after I retired in lieu of furlough caused by 9/11 and slick Chicago lawyers. My avocado farm, on which I hoped to retire was destroyed by the Med-fly and NAFTA. My wife developed opiod addiction to pharmaceuticals after several horrific auto accidents that nearly cost her life. In her last days, she ran up every debt she could manage, ran away, and wound up in a mental hospital (again). I took her back, tried to fix it yet once more, failed and saw her die an early death, leaving me with debts I couldn't manage. Luckily, I met and married an extraordinary Lutheran female with 13 great-grandchildren who married me and has counseled me well while I completed what is now a nearly finished extrication from my debts (not using bankruptcy). Damn honor! Females during my life have taught me nearly everything about behaving honorably. Without their counsels, from my Grandmother who was an extraordinary woman in every sense (African settler, 4 children, artist ) to my mother Leila, my teacher Miss Hildst, my cousin Shari Burfeind, my first wife Mary Jo and her mother Kay Simons, and of course Janet my wife in current time, all the other remrkable women who have taught me so much about living and loving well and honorably. I hope a female writes a beautiful missive of advice on Medium alike to yours, giving the same inspiration and wisdom to her son (s) and daughter (s) to prepare them for their pitfalls, their landmines, and their jackals, making the same advice paramount that you so beautifully express.
