Why You Should Always Carry a Notebook

In one of my favorite TED talks Elizabeth Gilbert talks about poet Ruth Stone running like hell back to her house from the fields to grab pen and paper, when a poem comes to her.
She also jokes about Tom Waits driving along when an idea hits him and saying, “ Do I look like I can write down a song right now? If you really want to exist, come back at a more opportune moment when I can take care of you. Otherwise, go bother somebody else today. Go bother Leonard Cohen.”
Let’s face it — most of us probably can’t afford to take that chance..we’re not Tom Waits! So, better carry that notebook, smartphone or whatever means of capturing our fickle Muse, when she deems us worthy to grace us with her presence!
